If My 4 Year-Old Can Do It…

6 Feb

I think we can all agree…asking for forgiveness is pretty hard. In fact, I’ve only recently learned how to do it (I’m pushing 40, but the way). The other day, my 4 year-old son had a particularly exhausting tantrum over (of all things) a football jersey. I should probably let you know that he will ONLY wear football jerseys, but it’s always a struggle deciding which one to wear.untitled

Well, after about 20 minutes of screaming and crying over wearing the Broncos jersey vs. the Seahawks jersey, he seemed out of energy (and tears).

But, what happened next shocked me. About 10 minutes after the entire ordeal, I heard a little voice from near my kneecaps. It was my son asking, “Mommy, do you forgive me?”

I hugged him and told him that, of course, I forgive him! But, his simple request lingered with me for quite some time. How did my Preschooler learn how to ask for forgiveness? Is it something I taught him?

Next time I need forgiveness, but feel too much pride to ask for it, I’m going to remember that moment. And, I hope you do, too.
